Signs the recession is over: Why millions of families may not feel like it is for some time
"Even if some are smiling on Wall Street, it's not fair to paint the economic picture as rosy for everyone.
"From the human side, the human story it's a difficult situation because a lot of people have been unemployed for a long time," career coach Michael Cushman said Monday.
First time claims for unemployment went up again, with 558-thousand in the latest weekly report. And the forecasters predict unemployment to hit double digits before the end of the year.
"The truth is it's slow to pick people back up; they won't do that until the business is there," Cushman said of businesses re-hiring laid off workers.
Today the Empowerment Tour, led by Cushman, stopped at the Mall of America. Its part of a national program to help folks looking for work, find the work, or schooling that is right for them. "

Career Stimulus Package Empowerment tour comes to St. Louis
"Tomorrow (Tues., Aug. 11), the “Empowerment Tour”, part of eLearners.com’s Career Stimulus Package campaign, will come to St. Louis to offset the crisis of undereducated, underemployed adult Americans.
St. Louis is one of the designated metropolitan areas for the 40-City Empowerment Tour which features career coaches, full-tuition scholarships and Job shadowing opportunities. The event will be held at Union Station on 1820 Market St. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m."
The national program is aimed at helping adults, of whom more than 70% do not have a bachelor’s degree, kick start their careers through education.

"Empowerment Tour" Makes Indy Stop Today
"Empowerment Tour 2009, a summer-long coast-to-coast tour of career coaches, is making a stop in Indianapolis on Monday.
In partnership with eLearners.com, the tour has a team of career coaches, guest speakers and scholarships for online courses.
Michael Cushman with the Empowerment Tour says the economy is forcing many people to reevaluate their careers and educational requirements. He says being a generalist isn't as attractive as it was when the economy was booming."

National tour makes a stop in Elkhart
"With high unemployment numbers across the county, A national organization is hitting the road to offer help. It's called the career stimulus empowerment tour and they're focused on helping adults get back to work.
The tour stopped in at the Elkhart Y-M-C-A. They offered everything from life coaching, career advice, and education. They say confidence is first on the agenda, but time is the second challenge adults face when readjusting their lives."

Newark hosts career empowerment tour
"Council President Mildred Crump is doing everything in her power to transform and kick start careers through education. The Empowerment Tour, which is part of the Career Stimulus Package by eLearners.com, came to Newark City Hall Monday with the goal of helping adult Americans overcome the barriers of time, money, and confidence in attaining a college degree. Council President Crump was joined by Mayor Cory Booker in welcoming the tour to Newark.

Audio interview: Flavia Colgan brings the Empowerment Tour to the Dallas Public Library
"eLearners.com is a collective of 200 colleges and universities offering online degree programs ranging from Associate to Ph.D. They've just kicked off what they're calling the Empowerment Tour (a.k.a. the Career Stimulus Package), with Dallas as their second stop amongst the forty cities they'll be visiting over the next couple of months. (The tour ends in Los Angeles on Sept. 7.)
Acting as ambassador for the tour, and for the concept of online degree programs as a way of getting more adults back into the workforce through improved education, is Flavia Colgan. Colgan served as Chief of Staff for the Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania after graduating from Harvard University. More recently, she's been a correspondent and political commentator on MSNBC, CBS's Early Show, Extra, Travel Channel and FOX News. She is currently an associate editor for the Philadelphia Daily News and has served on that paper’s editorial board."

Adult-education tour kicks off Friday at Skyline Park
"A new national program to promote education for adults kicks off its national tour Friday at Skyline Park in Denver.
The “Career Stimulus Package Empowerment Tour,” sponsored by Hoboken, N.J.-based elearners.com, takes place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. outdoors at the park, which is at 17th and Arapahoe streets.
The program “will offer under-educated, under-employed adults access to online education opportunities ... and job-shadowing programs at some of America’s most innovative companies,” according to a news release.
The event offers career coaching and the opportunity to apply for full-tuition college scholarships, with a total of up to $4 million to be awarded by eight schools: American Public University, Ashworth College, Bryant and Stratton College, Capella University, Ellis University, Everest University, Virginia College and Western Governors University."
