MS - Addiction Counseling

This Master's in Addiction Counseling is designed to develop professionals trained in the areas of addiction counseling, treatment, and prevention. There is a particular emphasis on treating addictions and co-occurring mental health illnesses, which can improve the possibility that your clients will complete treatment and have better post-treatment outcomes. The curriculum covers both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills you need to offer integrated services and treat co-occurring disorders in an addiction counseling or general clinical setting. This rigorous program includes online course work, residencies and clinical experiences.

With your Master's in General Addiction Counseling from Capella, you'll learn to apply addiction counseling intervention and prevention theories, models and approaches to individuals and groups. You'll also articulate knowledge, skills and best practices related to addiction counseling, and select appropriate assessments to evaluate, diagnose, and develop a treatment plan for clients.

RequirementsApplicants must have: Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) from regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution, undergrad GPA of at least 2.7 (on 4.0 scale) or equivalent from an international institution, professional experience.
On Campus RequirementAs part of your program you will attend residential colloquia in addition to your online courses. At specific milestones in your program, you will attend two colloquia, each six days in length.
