This course studies the development of a child from conception to adolescence. As a foundation for later study of child growth and development, this course takes a thematic approach to child development. A major emphasis of this course is in the prenatal, infant, and preschool areas of development. Due to time constraints, not all topical areas will be completely discussed. Various theories of development and growth will be reviewed at different stages of development. Each area of development will provide you with insights into the process of child growth and development. As a student you are encouraged to further develop your understanding of the growth and development of a child through reading, observing, presenting, and writing about children in different stages of development. You are encouraged to continue gaining knowledge and understanding of child growth and development throughout your career by taking additional courses in child development, reading, attending professional seminars and discussing the fascinating world of child growth and development. |
