Topics and objectives include: the Study of History; the Legacy of the Civil War and Reconstruction; the Industrialization of America and the Rise of Big Business; From Commonwealth to Empire: The Rise of the United States as a World Power; the Urbanization of America and the Origins and Significance of the Progressive Movement; World War I and the Entrance of the United States onto the World Stage; Mass Media, the 1920s, the Great Depression, the New Deal, and the Beginnings of the Welfare State; and the Death of Isolationism: The Origins and Significance of World War II.
