Public Policy (PLCY 205) provides practical experience in communicating to make or to analyze public policy and to develop critical awareness of language use in democratic governance. Course assignments are designed to develop the competence, confidence, and rhetorical understanding needed by communicators in public life and governmental processes. Students play various roles in the policy-making process by defining policy problems, observing problematic conditions, conducting public records research, interacting with authorities, and writing functional documents. Students are introduced to public communication standards and techniques through exercises in writing, revising, and analyzing public policy texts. |
