| School: |
Syracuse University
|
| Description: |
This course examines McDonald's, Starbucks, CNN, MTV, Nike, Disney and more following patterns of consumption, culture and production are becoming linked and standardized around the world. Major changes are evident throughout society. Some see "globalization" as at the root of dominant problems and inequalities throughout the world, and many have joined in protest movements seeking to halt or reverse changes. Others see new freedoms and increased human potentials in "modernized" societies. This course examines how globalization is reshaping peoples' lives in the U.S. and other societies. Students will do readings, view movies and draw on the resources of the Internet while participating in an interactive class that considers the causes, directions and consequences of the social changes resulting from globalization. |
