ART 254 is a survey course that considers art produced by women. We will examine art works from the medieval period to the nineteenth century with particular emphasis on the special challenges faced by female artists. A variety of artistic mediums will be studied including manuscript pages, sculpture, and painting, and we will also analyze a variety of literary sources drawing from the areas of women’s studies and literature. No previous knowledge of art history is required.
