At Thomas University the Master of Science degree in Community Counseling is designed to prepare students to be practicing counselors in various human services or mental health settings. The Master of Science program emphasizes counseling skills, field experience (through a practicum and internships in the student's locale), and the role of helping relationships. Students are prepared to sit for the National Counseling Exam (NCE) upon completion of the program. Also, upon completion of the program and a period of post-master's supervised experience under a licensed professional, individuals may apply for state licensure to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). The 48 credit program offers two concentrations: Rehabilitation Counseling and Career Counseling. Up to nine credits of applicable graduate coursework may be accepted as transfer credit.

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from a regionally accredited college or university.
