Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a Concentration in Homeland Security

Criminal justice occupations are employing more people than ever before. In response to 9/11, federal, local and state law enforcement agencies have hired additional security and investigative personnel to protect places of interest and watch for suspicious activities. New technologies such as mobile radiation detectors have also caused an increase in hiring, as trained staff are required for installation and monitoring.

A degree in criminal justice provides students with a solid understanding of the law, ethical decision-making, and criminal science. This knowledge translates to a variety of careers in the field of public safety, from law enforcement officer to private investigator.

Homeland security concentration

In addition to the core criminal justice topics, the Bachelor degree delves deeper into criminal psychology and investigation, narcotics and financial crimes. In the homeland security concentration, students explore and learn how to respond to different situations that hinder public safety: fire science, terrorism, emergency management, industrial security, and incident stress management are examples of the topics covered. In modern society, knowledge of homeland security and public safety strategies is very valuable to any criminal justice-related career.
