Entrepreneur and humanitarian Dr. Katherine Y. Brown is the Founder of Dr. Katherine and Associates CPR Courses. With a healthcare facility nestled in Chicago’s south side, Brown and her instructors travel nationwide teaching American Heart Association Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and First Aid courses to healthcare providers and the community at large. Her passion for cardiovascular health has fueled her nationwide campaign to increase bystander CPR. As she explains,“People are dying everyday and I look forward to the day when the community views learning CPR not as an option, but as the necessity of life it really is.”

Brown understands that urban communities have disproportionately higher percentages of their populations who die from cardiac arrest and she has chosen to make this a platform issue for her company to combat. This year, Dr. Katherine and Associates fought the inequity by training over 1000 people in urban communities with free non-certification CPR courses during National CPR Week. Her passion to teach CPR to the community has propelled her to visit homeless women’s shelters, churches, schools, service organizations and parks. She currently celebrates her company’s door knocking campaign where teams travel door to door in low income areas and demonstrate CPR to residents on the spot. Her motto is,“We are in the community for the community, saving lives one CPR class at a time.”

Dr. Brown’s solid track record for helping the community has attracted attention and recognition from individuals and organizations alike. As a highly sought after motivational speaker with an empowering message, Dr. Brown has lectured for organizations and universities nationwide in addition to formally teaching at elevated levels of academia. Snapshots into Brown’s formal acknowledgements include the Nashville Business Quarterly which named her as one of its “Top African American Leaders” and the Chicago State Alumni Association that celebrated her with the “Outstanding Achievement in Health Sciences” award.
