Judy Chapman, Founder of Garden State Woman

Judy Chapman, Founder of Garden State Woman, has been the voice of New Jersey women since 1998. Originally focused on producing the print publication, Garden State Woman Magazine, the company has evolved into a multi media organization.
In this evolution, networking events and conferences for women on finance and health have been an important focus. A monthly e-newsletter and a strong, relevant website, www.gswoman.com are part of today’s communication tools.
Several years ago, the Garden State Woman Education Foundation was formed as a 501 c3. The mission of this foundation is two-fold: to continue to provide New Jersey women with networking and conferences; to provide scholarship opportunities to inner city girls who have been accepted by a New Jersey university or college. At present young women from Newark and Paterson are receiving aid and are studying at Rutgers University, New Brunswick.
Going forward we hope to grow and continue to be a voice for New Jersey women and girls. A graduate of Rutgers, Judy has extensive work experience in profit as well as non profit fields. Her career experience includes working for the British Computer Society In London, England. She has previously worked as Public Relations/Development Director at East Orange General Hospital and Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ.
Taking a career hiatus to raise her son, she returned to the workforce when she started Garden State Woman. She was inspired to take on this project in support of working women because she did not think women receive enough credit for all the roles they play in our culture. She thinks women need to be more assertive – even at the risk of being typed a b----. We need to promote the idea that we are more than sex objects. We need to be role models for young women. They need to know that their personal freedom depends on their ability to support themselves.
Judy is married to Jack Killion. They have one adult son, and live on a horse farm.
