Are you a transfer student? The Leadership & Organizational Studies program is flexible because of the number of general electives – we can take 60 transfer credits. The program can help you achieve your bachelor’s degree and even start a graduate degree.

The Leadership & Organizational Studies program fits your path whether you are looking for a completer program or are a first-year student. The program also serves as a direct entry into a Bay Path University graduate degree. In fact, you will take graduate-level courses while in the program.

With this degree, you become part of a team supporting young children in one of the most important phases that predicts their academic success—early childhood. Working in child community-based programs, classroom environments, or daycare settings, you support other educators in positively impacting the lives of children. Early Childhood Leadership provides excellent credentials for further degrees in education.

As a student, you will:

    Learn the psychology of early childhood—behavior, personality, and cognitive growth
    
    Study current methods and approaches to teaching, including planning, classroom management techniques, and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) standards
    
    Be prepared to work with special needs children, helping them integrate into a learning setting

The Elementary Education degree program curriculum will prepare you with the skills and knowledge necessary to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for all children. The elementary education bachelor's degree program will prepare you to teach elementary school grades 1-6. Bay Path University provides both licensure and non-licensure programs.

As a student in the elementary education degree licensure program, you will:

    Complete a supervised field-based pre-practicum and student teaching practicum in a public elementary school classroom
    
    Gain a level of experience for field-based work that exceeds the requirements of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
    
    Earn an initial license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
    
    Develop the background necessary to pursue certification and licensure in other states

The elementary education degree non-licensure program is designed for students who do not wish to pursue public teaching certification but wish to pursue a career working with children or a graduate degree in education or psychology. As a student in the elementary education degree non-licensure program, you will complete all the requirements of an education degree, except the practicum and Massachusetts Tests of Educational Licensure.

Child Psychology degree majors study all aspects of child development — physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and moral — as well as other areas that play a key role in development, including parenting, family dynamics and the education system.

The child psychology degree program is designed for those interested in working with children of all ages, from infants to adolescents. While studying child psychology, you will:

    Learn the stages of development and significant milestones in a child’s life
    
    Explore the causes of childhood mental illness and the cultural influences that shape identity
    
    Study the fundamentals of early intervention programs
    
    Complete diagnostic reports and behavioral observations
    
    Become proficient in the essentials of family communication

The Forensic Psychology program at Bay Path is designed for students to apply the principles and insights of psychology within the mental health, criminal justice, and legal systems. The demand for expertise in this field is rapidly increasing, with multiple career opportunities. Forensic Psychology majors are prepared to work in these types of settings: domestic violence programs, male and female correctional facilities, re-entry programs, the court system, probation, Department of Youth Services, working with gang members, law enforcement, and substance abuse agencies to name a few.

    How are the issues of female offenders different from the needs of male offenders?
    
    What role does mental illness play in relation to crime, and how do the criminal justice and legal systems address the issues?
    
    Are psychopaths driven by biological deficits or societal influences?
    
    How are families affected by incarceration?
    
    What contributes to offender rehabilitation and effective re-entry back into the community?
    
    What ethical considerations must be considered when the legal system, criminal justice system, and the mental health system are all involved with a case?
    
    What is the psychological impact on both perpetrators and victims of a crime, and how are they different?

The Human Services and Rehabilitation major helps advance students working in social, medical, rehabilitation, and human service settings, as well as those intending to move directly into support and human service jobs.

The Human Services & Rehabilitation program incorporates and supports the 12 national standards set by the Human Services Research Institute, the highest expectations in the field. As a student in the program, you will:

    Prepare to meet various human needs through an interdisciplinary knowledge base.
    
    Focus on prevention, as well as remediation of problems.
    Develop the skills and knowledge to work in a variety of direct-service roles.
    
    Employ appropriate assessment theory and delivery models.
    
    Evaluate community resources to assist and support clients.
    
    Apply the appropriate skills to treat individuals with developmental disabilities.
    
    Advance the independence, integration, and full participation of individuals with rehabilitation needs in the workforce and the community.

As part of this degree program, students will participate in a 120-hour practicum.  This is a great opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience while also applying the concepts and skills they are learning throughout their coursework.
