Online Education at Mountain State University
Mountain State University, founded in 1933, is an independent not-for-profit university offering both traditional classroom education and distance learning programs. MSU academic programs span a wide range of fields, but they all focus on preparing students for success. This orientation means professional studies that meet current and future employment needs. It also means the skills that build both long-term career growth and personal satisfaction.
Mountain State University believes in the value of lifelong learning and the power of knowledge to transform lives. We respond to educational needs by providing accessible, innovative undergraduate and graduate programs that lead to opportunities for personal and professional success.
As an online student, you are only a mouse click away from your seat in class — the web is your campus!
Like other forms of distance learning, online study brings classes and degree programs within reach of people who would find it difficult or impossible to attend classes on campus. While there may be some scheduled online activities, you can complete most learning at the time and location that are best for you.
Students agree that they have the same level of faculty support within the online "virtual" classroom as those in traditional classroom settings. Some students, especially those with a high degree of self-discipline and good time management skills, discover that learning online is their preferred mode.
Convenience and Accessibility
Mountain State University offers online courses and degrees through the Blackboard® CE learning management system. Online faculty members use Blackboard® to post class announcements, guide threaded online discussions, communicate with students, and assess and grade course work. Online library support and learning resources are readily available.
During each 16-week semester you complete a sequence of two classes every eight weeks. This approach qualifies you as a full-time student for financial aid purposes while still allowing you to focus your studies and manage your time without juggling assignments and projects from multiple classes. Most online students spend 10 to 20 hours a week on their studies.
