If you can't make it to campus, or if you have a challenging schedule, you can still work toward your degree through our distance-learning program. In fact, more than a dozen of our undergraduate and graduate programs are offered partially or entirely online. Dedicated professionals in the division of educational outreach work with you, guide you through university processes, and celebrate your accomplishments.

Guiding New Online Students to Success

Maybe you're new to distance education courses, or maybe you're an experienced online learner. In either case, you're going to need a lot of specific, and even unique information to be a successful online learner at WCU. The Division of Educational Outreach has developed the University Experience Course, an online learning experience designed to provide the tools you'll need for successful online learning.

This course is designed as an introduction to online learning and the wide range of academic and support services available to you as a Western Carolina University student. Through the UE Course Menu you'll navigate your way through descriptions of available student services, academic services, computer technologies and other topics.

At Western Carolina University, we understand that completing a college degree is important to you. All of our degree programs are designed and delivered by highly qualified and caring educators who understand the unique challenges faced by military students. Western Carolina University's degree programs will make you more competitive for promotion as a military member or civilian employee, they will develop you professionally and personally, and they will satisfy your desire and love for learning.

WCU's military-friendly practices include a centralized office dedicated to serving the needs of military transfer students, flexible transfer credit policies, a variety of class schedules and delivery methods, clearly defined withdrawal and leave of absence policies for military students, and membership in the Servicemembers Opportunity College.

Western Carolina University has been named a top 'military-friendly school' for 2010 by G.I. Jobs magazine and will be listed in the magazine's Guide to Military Friendly Schools, to be published in September. The magazine polled more than 7,000 state universities, private colleges and trade schools nationwide in determining the results.
