Why Study at Hawai'i Pacific University?

A Quality Online Learning Experience

HPU's online programs provide individuals anywhere with the opportunity to take HPU courses leading to a degree using the World Wide Web. Our distance learning courses are available wherever you can access the Internet.

HPU's online courses require students to respond to all posted assignments and participate regularly. As in traditional, face-to-face courses, you should expect to spend a considerable amount of time studying outside of class. While time requirements for individual students and courses may vary considerably, a typical three semester credit course will generally require a minimum of nine to twelve hours of study per week.

Students enrolled in online programs and courses can expect that instructors will use a variety of web-based tools such as discussion forums, e-mail, real-time chat, multimedia presentations and online assessment tools to facilitate student learning as well as student-to-instructor and student-to-student(s) interaction. Students enrolled in an online course should be: able to work independently, self-motivated, goal-oriented, able to prioritize workload, skilled in reading and writing, and able to follow directions in completing complex tasks.

Military Friendly

Hawai'i Pacific University welcomes our veterans with military-friendly classes, convenient course scheduling, and support services to help you reach your educational goals. Military personnel, family members, and Department of Defense employees are eligible for the military programs.

HPU's Military Campus Programs academic year consists of:

  • 4 - major terms of 10 weeks
  • 3 - five week terms
  • 3 - three week terms
  • 3 - five week online terms

Students receiving veteran benefits may register for courses online or at any Hawai'i Pacific University registration center. Students must notify their advisor at the time of registration that they intend to use veteran benefits, so that we may assist you with your course certifications. Students planning to enroll under any GI Bill program must first submit the VA Form 22-1990 (Application for Veterans Educational Benefits).

The new Post-9/11 GI Bill will cover 100% of your tuition and fees to attend Hawai'i Pacific University, regardless of the cost — even graduate programs. There is no maximum dollar cap on your benefits, and you are entitled to up to 36 months of full-time benefits. To be eligible for this benefit, you must currently be on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, and you must have served at least 90 days on active duty since September 11, 2001.
