Since its beginnings, Notre Dame has established itself as one of the premier universities in the country. Admission to the university is highly competitive, with five applicants for each freshman class position. 69 percent of incoming freshmen were in the top five percent of their high school graduating classes.

Notre Dame is currently ranked #20 among the best national universities by U.S. News & World Report.

Notre Dame faculty members have won 17 fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities in the past five years, more than for any other university in the nation.
