Online IEEE Accredited Course - Overview of Mission Critical Facilities Engineering |
| School: |
Power Management Concepts
|
| Description: |
"Mission Critical" refers to a broad category of electrical and mechanical systems that require ultra-high reliability and availability to function continuously. The existing national transmission grid and electrical distribution in most buildings were not designed to sustain the mission critical demands of a modern digital 7x24 environment. All utility power distribution systems are vulnerable to power quality disturbances that are potential hazards to an electrical network. The facilities manager must be trained to understand the sources of these disturbances and methods for minimizing their effects on a building's mission critical infrastructure. Preventive maintenance is one of the key approaches to protecting a facility through detection of potential points of failure before the deficiency initiates a system-wide malfunction. Students receive comprehensive instruction on how proper adherence to codes and regulations prevents fire, equipment failure and safety hazards to staff. |
