This course is a thorough introduction to elementary Russian. It covers the basics of Russian grammar, including cases, verbal conjugation, and verbs of motion. The course emphasizes the four skill areas crucial to effective language learning: reading, writing, listening comprehension, and speaking. Students are involved in the learning process not only by completing written exercises but also by listening to tapes of native speakers and recording themselves speaking Russian. Russian 101/1 is designed so that upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to communicate well enough to get by if they travel to Russia. Meets UNC-Chapel Hill General Education Requirements. Access to audiocassette tape recorder required. |
