PTI's online Medical Coding certificate program permits students both synchronous and asynchronous access to instructors and course materials. To reinforce progress and learning, classes are scheduled on a quarter basis and assignments must be completed within a predetermined timeframe.

Medical Coding Specialists translate verbal descriptions of diseases, injuries, and procedures into codes. At the completion of the program, students can sit for the national coding examination for either physicians' offices or hospitals.

Course material taught for a certificate in Medical Coding will cover: Insurance Billing and Collections, Coding for Physicians and Hospitals, Reimbursement Methods and Regulatory Guidelines, Computerized Medical Office Procedures, The Body in Sickness and Health, Chart Abstracting and Coding Simulation. This course is dedicated to preparing you for the national coding exam and will provide you with an introduction to codes from ICD-9-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS and to claim forms for the physician - CMS-1500 and for the hospital - UB-04.
