eLearners.com Reaches Out to Displaced Students in Wake of Hurricane Katrina

HOBOKEN, N.J., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- eLearners.comŽ is on a mission to help send college students displaced by Hurricane Katrina back to school.

"As many as 100,000 college students have been displaced while pursuing their education, and the majority of them are wondering what, if any, options they have to continue their studies," said C.J. DeSantis, founder and president of eLearners.comŽ.

As a clearinghouse, the Katrina Relief College Database serves two distinct functions. The first is the provision of a centralized location for schools offering assistance to students impacted by Hurricane Katrina to post their offers. Colleges and universities also can obtain the names of prospective students who are interested in continuing their education elsewhere. The second function is to serve as a one-stop source for students to submit information about their current status and their educational needs, as well as find links to schools catering to those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Since Sept. 2, more than 30 colleges and universities have utilized the Katrina Relief College Database to share their specific offerings with students. In addition, the database includes more than 300 colleges and universities that have announced their intentions to help hurricane victims.

"We have seen an outpouring of support from the educational community and determined the need for a centralized clearinghouse that would make it easier for these students to connect to the educational assistance they need," DeSantis said.
