Bachelor of Science in Business Studies - Industrial Organizational Psychology
Central to the understanding of this program is an awareness of what industrial and organizational psychology is and what the Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology degree seeks to accomplish.
Industrial and organizational psychology “is a general practice specialty of professional psychology with a focus on scientifically-based solutions to human problems in work and other organizational settings”. The APA notes that industrial and organizational psychologists “assess and enhance the effectiveness of individuals, groups, and organizations.”
Although the program is called “Industrial and Organizational Psychology” the degree program does not train individuals to be industrial and organizational psychologists. It does, however, focus on skills which can be brought to bear to solve individual, group and organizational problems in the business environment.
Programs in industrial and organizational psychology are frequently found at the graduate (Master of Arts level). In fact, if one desires to be a practicing industrial and organizational psychologist a master’s degree will be necessary.
The SNHU program is an option for anyone seeking to enter the Human Resource field. A background in industrial and organizational psychology is especially relevant for someone seeking to focus on the organization development and training/development areas within the Human Resource function. The program builds on the Business Core and supplements study with psychology courses appropriate for someone seeking to drive organizational improvement.
