Degree Title:
BA in Liberal Studies - Literature & Writing
College:
Union Institute & University
Description:
Following Vermont’s long literary tradition, our concentration in Writing and Literature focuses on your personal vision and passion. Learners completing the program leave with a strong sense of who they are as writers in both their own work and the broader context of literature. While some of our alumni have gone on to publish, many have pursued teaching or continued on to graduate programs. A concentration in Writing and Literature provides ample preparation for careers in law, business, education, and human services. Whatever your goals, you will leave with a deep sense of the writing process and expansive knowledge of the world of literature. UI&U has worked with writers like you for over forty years. Whether you are just beginning, like many of our learners, or like others, have already published, experienced faculty will work with you on fiction, poetry, memoir, essay journalism, and other forms of writing. The study and enjoyment of literature – American, European, Asian, contemporary, classical, women's literature, and others – greatly enriches people's understanding of the human condition and serves to reflect on our environment, politics, and society. This degree offers an excellent precursor for graduate studies in writing, law, culture & history, and much more.
