He endured a grueling 12-month semester. After a term like that, many students would think they had earned the right to slack off a bit. But Terry is not just any student. He is ready to sign on for more…and quickly.

He enjoyed a successful career as a broadcast journalist that spanned 20 years. He recently made a satisfying career change that prompted him to validate his skills.

The 42-year old enrolled at Penn Foster College to pursue an associate's degree with considerably more responsibility than most college freshman--a wife, two children, and two jobs.

“I was always able to get hired based upon my work experience,” explains the seasoned television and radio reporter. His reputation preceded him, and his substantial body of work backed him up.

“Not having a degree didn't impede me so much when I was in that line of work.” He later realized that he didn't want to spend another two decades in the field.

He covered the trial of Terry Nichols, convicted as an accomplice in the bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City.

“I spent months listening to horrible testimony,” he says candidly. “I decided I'd been doing that line of work long enough. It was starting to get under my skin.”

He leveraged his news writing skills and made a move. Now, as a marketing and public relations representative at a publishing company, Terry's work life is much more pleasant.

But, without longevity in the industry and the Rolodex of contacts that usually accompanies such stature, he can't rest on his laurels.
