Air Force Reserve Tuition Assistance

To be eligible for Tuition Assistance, reservists must have 24 months remaining on their commitment, be actively participating in the unit program, and have a high school diploma.

Simply print and fill out AF Form 1227, Authority for Tuition Assistance — Education Services Program (.PDF) and bring it to your Education Services Office, along with your degree plan.

Army Reserve Tuition Assistance

You must complete your voluntary education on personal time. You are strongly encouraged to become familiar with and use all the education benefits and programs available to you.

Tuition Assistance for Army Reservists

• Apply for Army Reserve Tuition Assistance now! Log in using your AKO username and password. Or, if necessary, you can print and fill out DA Form 2171-E, Request for Tuition Assistance - Army Continuing Education System (.PDF).
• The downloadable form should only be used in cases where you are unable to access the online application. Completing the form online will speed your Tuition Assistance processing by both generating the form for your signature and automatically submitting your Tuition Assistance request to your education specialist.

Navy Reserve Tuition Assistance

There are currently no Tuition Assistance programs for the Navy Reserve. However, if you are activated under Title 10 then you qualify for Active Duty Navy Tuition Assistance.

According to the official Navy Reserve benefits page for enlisted members, selected enlisted Naval reservists on Active Duty for 120 continuous days can be reimbursed up to 100 percent of tuition costs.

According to the Navy Reserve benefits page for officers, selected officers of the Navy Reserve on Active Duty for two or more years can be reimbursed up to 100 percent of tuition costs.

Marine Corps Reserve Tuition Assistance

Coast Guard Reserve Tuition Assistance

You can take traditional, in-classroom courses or online classes, but they must be taken through a properly accredited institution, which means it's nationally or regionally accredited and it awards college credit or accredited clock or contact hours.

All users of the TA program are reminded that prompt submission of a properly completed application is required prior to class registration. Applicants should keep in mind that it takes time to authorize TA and to leave ample time before classes are set to begin.

Some important notes...

• TA will be paid "up-front" for traditional college course work for courses less than 18 weeks long.
• Courses longer than 18 weeks will be reimbursed when you successfully complete the course.
• Non-appropriated funded personnel (NAFA) and contractors are not eligible for TA.

About service obligations...

• Enlisted members do not incur a service duty obligation, but must complete the course of instruction prior to RELAD, discharge, retirement or termination of selected reserve status.
• Officers agree not to request RELAD, separation, retirement, or termination of selected reserve status for 12 months after completing a course(s).
