The Diploma in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technician Program prepares persons to work in entry-level positions with the temperature, humidity and the total air quality in residential, commercial, industrial and other buildings that are controlled by heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. The HVAC Technician’s duties and work environment are varied and involve installing, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing such systems. Topics of study include mathematics, blueprint reading, basic fundamentals of electricity, electrical systems, air conditioning/refrigeration, computer skills, residential technology, commercial air conditioning/ refrigeration, professionalism, and EPA Certification. There is an externship component included where the students will be provided the opportunity to apply their knowledge in the contemporary, practical working environments. Upon completion of the HVAC Technician Program, graduates will be prepared to take the EPA Clean Air Act, Section 608, Type I Certification Exam. Licenses, certifications, and work experience offer HVAC technicians the chance to prove their skills and to advance their careers and wages. The usual completion time for the 900 clock hour program is nine (9) months for the day, and twelve (12) months for the evening.
