Brightwood College is a for-profit college that was founded in Dayton, Ohio, in 2015. In a few short years, BC would grow to include campuses throughout the United States.

It is BC’s mission to offer constructive courses to develop students’ professional abilities. This doesn’t only include vocational training, but also the professional knowledge of values, attitudes, and strategies that could assist you in a potential future career.
To do this, classes focus on keeping their education current and relevant to their field. BC works to employ instructors who have real-world experience in their industry. These professionals may provide students new insights into their intended field of study other than what a textbook might be able to.

In addition, Brightwood College also offers an online campus for students who may be unable to attend the physical classroom.

How Many Students Attend Brightwood College?

BC attendance varies by campus. In 2015, 326 undergraduate students were enrolled in the main campus. 100% of those students attended school as full-time students. 85% of the student body was female and 15% was male.

And, the majority of students attending BC are adult learners returning to their education. 60% of undergraduates were 25 years old or older. The remaining 40% of students were 24 years old or younger. [i]

Applying to Brightwood College

Brightwood College maintains an open admissions policy. This process is less competitive than typical college admissions. Students may not be required to submit a minimum SAT/ACT score or GPA.

Even though there may not be any basic qualification, BC still might require you to provide your high school diploma or GED equivalent. After doing this, an admissions representative could help guide you to programs and classes that align with your educational interests and goals.

Brightwood College Online Programs

Online programs at BC are offered via their affiliate, Virginia College.* Even though programs are offered through a different school, students could still apply normally to Brightwood College.

Both schools realize that adult students, who make up a large portion of BC, have other obligations. Their education might come second to their job, family, or other priorities. But, the online courses are conveniently offered wherever there is internet access.

And, these classes are offered 100% online. The available programs might not require you to come to campus to complete lab classes, internships, or practicums. This way, you could earn your degree entirely from the comfort of your own home.

In addition to classes, BC aims to support their students through their entire academic journey. After enrolling, online students could meet with the Financial Planning Department. These professional could help you find available financial aid options to apply for. It’s a complicated process, but these team members could help direct you to collect and complete necessary materials.

96% of Brightwood College’s full-time, beginning undergraduate students received some form of financial aid in 2014-2015. 88% of these students received aid from a grant or scholarship. Students received the following median amounts of aid from the listed grants or scholarships.

The Brightwood College Faculty

The amount of employed faculty varies between the various Brightwood campuses. For example, Brightwood’s Dayton campus employed 2 full-time and 32 part-time faculty members in 2015.

It’s important to note the professors dedicate 100% of their time to classroom instruction. This means that professors are not conducting additional research or projects that could take away from valuable class time. In addition, Brightwood College does not employ graduate assistants. The online associate of science in business administration program at BC is focused on providing real-world business education for its students. Courses in this degree program could include some of the following subjects.

This course of study may require students to complete 96 credit hours’ worth of classes. Students could potentially earn an online associate of science in business administration in 2 years.

Graduating Rate

Of the full-time, first-time students who began their studies in 2012-2013, 53% graduated within 150% of their “normal time” of completion. For an associate degree, this is typically 2 years. 41% would earn their degree within the “normal time.” Out of the remaining students, 53% would go on to earn their degree within 150% of their “normal time.” 51% of graduates were male and 54% were female.

Please note that these numbers do not reflect the entire body of students who began their studies in 2012-2013. Students who transferred into Brightwood College or began as a part-time student are not considered in these graduation rates. Exact graduation rates vary by campus.
