Where Is Lamar University?

Lamar University is located in Beaumont, Texas. The area's lush, subtropical climate makes it a perfect place for students to explore. How Many Students Are Enrolled at Lamar University?

14,965 students enrolled in Lamar University in the fall of 2015. 9,215 enrolled as undergraduates, while 5,750 enrolled as graduate students.

Of those same students, 69% of undergraduates chose to attend school full-time. The remaining 31% pursed their education part-time.

How Do You Apply to Lamar University?

Students applying to undergraduate programs through Lamar University online classes may be required to submit the following materials.

  • Completed application submitted in the Apply Texas system
  • SAT or ACT test scores
  • High school transcript displaying class size and rank

Required SAT and ACT tests scores vary depending on your class rank. For example, students in the top 10% of their class do not need to surpass a minimum score for admission. Students may be asked to submit a 930-1080 combined SAT or an 18-21 ACT score.

Graduate students have similar criteria. When applying for a graduate program, you may be required to submit the following.

  • Completed application in the Apply Texas system
  • Official transcripts from bachelors programs
  • GRE or GMAT test scores

Retention Rates at Lamar University

Lamar University retained 58% of first-time students from fall 2014 to fall 2015. This number does not include students who transferred to LU, attended another postsecondary school, or began their studies on a part-time basis. 64% of students who began their studies in 2015 could be considered full-time, first-time students.ii

77% of full-time, beginning undergraduate students received some sort of financial aid in 2014-2015. That means 1,084 students received financial aid for their freshmen year of college.

77% of those students received financial aid from a grant or scholarship. Students received the following median amount of aid from these sources:

Faculty at LU Online

In the fall on 2015, Lamar University employed 490 full-time and 105 part-time faculty members. 486 full-time faculty and 100% of the part-time faculty devote their time to solely instructing students. 4 faculty members conducted research or public service works while on campus.

Lamar University also employees graduate assistants to help teach and assist professors’ research. In the fall of 2015, LU employed 204 total graduate assistants. Of those, 98 spent their time instructing, and 106 assisted with research projects.v

Military Student Services

Lamar University is pleased to be designated as a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity College (SOC) consortium. As a member of SOC, Lamar University is committed to assisting members of the armed forces take advantage of its instructional programs and services through consistent, expedited procedures. These include transfer of related credit from other SOC member institutions, awarding credit for appropriate military training or experience, and providing flexible residency requirements and registration prioritization.

Lamar University is accredited by the Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges. The SASCOC is a regional accreting body for southern states. The agency pushes schools to constantly enhance the quality and effectiveness of the degree programs they offer. This could include providing new resources, programs, or services for students to use.

Bachler of Science in Nursing at LU Online

The online bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) program strives to teach techniques to address the evolving needs of the nursing field. To do this, students study topics in disease prevention, health promotion, and health maintenance and restoration. As part of this, students could have the chance to take some of the following classes.

  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Microbiology
  • Nursing Simulation Labs
  • Pharmacology
  • Adult Care

These are only a few classes you may have to take when earning your online nursing bachelors degree. Students may be required to complete a total of 120 credit hours of classes to graduate.

32% of full-time, first-time students who began their studies in 2009 graduated within 150% of their “normal time.” 11% earned a bachelors degree in 4 years. Another 32% would earn their degree within 6 years. Of those graduating students, 30% were male and 34% were female.
