Located in Newton, Masachussetts, Lasell College is just eight miles from the vibrant city of Boston, in addition to offering the conveneience of Lasell College Online degree programs. Its campus sits on 53 acres of suburban property. With 52 total buildings, it has numerous wide-open spaces and expansive lawns. The school was founded in 1851, and its architecture blends the old with new.

Lasell College Online : Unique Qualities

Lasell College promotes student interaction and connection. It has more than 50 student clubs and organizations, including academic, social, and athletic opportunities. The school carves out “common hours” during the week at which time students can attend events and gatherings of their choosing. Overall, the school strives to establish a sense of community.

One of Lasell College’s core initiatives is to enhance traditional learning approaches with interactive ones. It offers students opportunities for internships, service learning, and challenging projects in and out of the classroom. The idea is to help students learn through a variety of formats and community interaction.

Sports at Lasell

The sports program at Lasell College is quite developed. A Division III NCAA school and a member of the Great Northeast Atlantic, Lasell has 17 varsity sports for men and women combined. The school also offers an athletic center, aerobic classes, and opportunities to rent kayaks and other outdoor equipment. Intramural sports, such as wiffle ball, basketball, and flag football also help keep students interactive.

Lasell College Admissions

Lasell College admissions requirements vary by program level and type. However, here are some general guidelines.

Undergraduate Applicants

Undergraduate applicants can apply to Lasell College online or on paper. They must submit:

  • General information
  • An outline of extracurricular involvement
  • A choice of academic program at Lasell
  • In some cases, standardized testing results
  • Grade point averages and transcripts from previously attended schools
  • Test scores (SAT and ACT)
  • Essays and recommendations

In addition, undergraduate applicants might have to give a personal interview and complete a college preparatory program to be admitted.

Lasell reviews applications for entry into the Fall (September) term and the Spring (January) term.

Graduate Applicants

Graduate applicants must apply to Lasell College online. The majority of online applicants at Lasell are prospective graduate students, so they too must follow these procedures. In most cases, to apply, applicants need to submit:

  • General information
  • Transcripts
  • A resume
  • Recommendations

Otherwise, applicants must submit application materials according to the requirements of their program.

Lasell College has a rolling admissions process for graduate applicants, with six start terms throughout the year (in January, March, May, July, September, and October). There is no GRE or GMAT requirement, and the application fee is waived.

International Graduate Applicants

International graduate applicants need to submit the following to apply to Lasell College:

  • An online application
  • Official transcripts (translated into English if necessary)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A Certificate of Financial Declaration
  • A TOEFL score of 79 or higher, or a IELTS score of 6 or higher
  • A personal statement
  • A valid passport and visa for studying in the U.S.

Otherwise, international graduate applicants’ admissions requirements vary by program.

Lasell College Acceptance Rate and Other Numbers

In fall, 2015, 3,171 students applied to Lasell College. Seventy-eight percent were admitted, and 20 percent of the students who were accepted went ahead and enrolled.[i]U.S. News rates Lasell College as “less selective.”

Retention and Graduation

The retention rate for first-time students pursuing a bachelor’s degree was 75 percent. The overall graduation rate for students who began their studies in fall, 2009 was 52 percent. 

Financial Aid

During the 2014-2015 school year, 1,700 undergraduate students (98 percent) received grant or scholarship aid. 1,386 undergraduate students (80 percent) received federal student loans. 

Lasell College Enrollment and Student Body

In 2017, Lassell College had 2,209 students. 1,815 were undergraduate students, and the rest were graduate students. The majority of the students at the school were women, with a gender ratio of 66 to 34 percent.

Lasell College Online

Ninety-nine percent of Lasell College’s undergraduate students went to school full time, and eighty-five percent of graduate students did the same. Fifty-four percent of graduate students were enrolled entirely in distance, or online, education. Just one percent of undergraduate students enrolled in some online education.

Seventy-four percent of Lasell College’s students lived in college-owned, -operated, or -affiliated housing in 2015, while 26 percent lived off campus.

Lasell College Ranking

U.S. News ranks Lasell College as tied for #131 in Regional Universities North. The schools tied for #101 in Best Online Graduate Business Programs (Excluding MBA). 

Lasell College Accreditation

As an institution, Lasell College is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Commission on Institutions of Higher Education. Many of its programs have additional accreditations through institutions such as:

  • The Commission of Accreditation of Athletic Training Education
  • The Massachussetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Accreditation from an independent, recognized organization helps ensure schools provide quality curricula and instruction. To transfer credits or degrees, apply for certain licenses and credentials, and to pursue certain careers, students may need to attend an accredited school or program.

Faculty at Lasell College

As of fall, 2015, 87 of Lasell College’s faculty were full time instructors and 180 were part time. The entirety of the teacher body focused on instruction; none focused on research. Lasell College prides itself in asking faculty to focus on interacting with and supporting students one-on-one and face-to-face. While students in online programs might not meet their instructors face-to-face, they can still expect to have one-on-one interactions with them. The student to faculty ratio at Lasell College is 14 to 1. Of its classes, 66.1 percent have fewer than 20 students.
