Is McCann an Accredited School?

McCann Business School is an accredited institution. In fact, it’s accredited by several different commissions. Overall, McCann is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS). The ACICS accredits private, postsecondary institutions that offer technical or occupational degree training. This agency pushes schools to continually enhance their vocational programs to include the newest material available in the field.

In addition to the ACICS, McCann is also accredited by the following agencies.

  • Pennsylvania campus medical assisting programs and the surgical technology associates in specialized technology are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Medical Laboratory Technician programs in Allentown, Pottsville, and Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

The History of McCann School of Business

McCann School of Business was founded by Louis C. McCann in 1897 in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, about 100 miles northwest of Philadelphia. It was established as a school of accountancy and secretarial training. In 1981, James and Elizabeth Noone purchased the school, and formed McCann Education Centers, Inc. The school would change hands several more times. Finally, in 2012, McCann School of Business & Technology merged with Miami-Jacobs Career College and the Academy of Court Reporting.

Over its 12-decade-plus history, the school opened campuses in many locations.

Admissions at McCann Business School

McCann has made their applications as simple as possible for prospective students. To apply, head over to their website and fill out an information request form. After doing that, you should receive a call from one of their Admissions Representatives. Advisors guide students through the rest of the process. This could include helping students choose classes or even pick a degree program.

It’s important to note the McCann Business School has an open admissions policy. This means that students may only have to submit a copy of their high school diploma or GED certificate. The non-competitive admissions process could be an easy way to start or jump back into your education!

Prospective students may be required to submit a $40 application fee when applying.i*

Enrolling in McCann

In the 2015 school year, 1,812 students enrolled in undergraduate studies at McCann. 108 of those students transferred into the school from a different institution. Out of the enrolled students, 66% chose to pursue their education full-time. Also, 70% of enrolled students were female, while 30% was male.

It’s interesting to note that McCann School of Business has an almost even split of new and returning students. For example, 44% of undergraduate students enrolled at McCann in 2015 were under the age of 24. On the other hand, the remaining 56% were over the age of 25.ii* McCann supports all students in search of education. And, education doesn’t have an age limit!

McCann Online Studies

McCann Business School understands that its students might have other obligations outside of their academic responsibilities. Enter McCann online. . . .

The online program is a flexible learning plan that can be woven into your preexisting routine. As long as you have access to your computer and the internet, you have the chance to continue your education online.

And, students may not miss out on the campus experience. McCann online programs strive to make their classes as interactive as campus ones. To do this, courses offer students lectures, seminars, and other materials they would typically work with on campus.

McCann Online: Associate Degree in Business Administration

The McCann online associate degree in business administration program is designed with the professional world in mind. Courses reflect the real demands of those within business-related industries. This could include experience in how to manage a team of your peers, how to draft contracts, or how to create a new business venture. The goal of the business administration program is to help students better understand each of the individual aspects that go into effectively running a business.

The associate program curriculum could be broken down into the following three sections.

  1. Small Business Management
  2. Business Law
  3. Management Training

This online degree could be conveniently available wherever you have internet access. And, because there are no set class times, you could pop some work into your schedule whenever you have some free time. Because McCann online is designed for actual students and real lifestyles.

Students could potentially earn an associate in occupational studies in business administration degree in 18 months depending on enrollment.

Applying for Financial Aid at McCann School of Business

If you’re worried that you can’t afford an education, think again. Financial aid may be available to those who qualify. McCann School of Business & Technology could work with you to explore the financial aid options available to help you complete your degree.

In the 2014-2015 school year, 90% of full-time beginning undergraduate students received financial aid. That’s 579 students who had help paying for their education! Of those same students, 78% received aid from grants or scholarships. These programs typically contributed a median amount of $6,566 towards students’ education.

Another 90% of students received student loans. Students who received this aid were awarded a median amount of $10,810.iii*

Speaking of student loans, McCann offers a Student Loan Help Center to guide students through the process. The knowledgeable team members could provide insight on which loans you should apply for. They could also assist you with applications and other details that might normally fall through the cracks.  

The Faculty of McCann Business School

In 2015, McCann Business School employed 30 full-time and 239 part-time faculty. This means that there was roughly a 7 to 1 student to faculty ratio. This means that professors could possibly provide more attention to their individual students. You might not have to worry about getting lost in a sea of other students at McCann!

And, it’s also important to note that 100% of the educators spend their time instructing students in the classroom. No time is taken away from students for professors to conduct outside research. Additionally, only professors teach McCann courses. No graduate assistants are used to supplement professor’s teaching schedules.iv*

Externships

To start off, you meet with an externship coordinator. They’re here to help pair you with a professional in your preferred field. The following are a few examples of possible externships placements.

During your time in your placement, you could have the chance to work as an actual employee. You could practically apply your knowledge from your McCann online program. Career Services & Lifetime Career Assistance

While externships are part of this, McCann offers a unique plan to assist students on their professional journey. McCann’s Career Services have a graduate placement strategy that starts the moment you apply to the school. This strategy includes the following.

Graduating from McCann Online

Many students who begin their educational career with McCann School of Business choose to continue pursuing them there. For example, from fall 2014 to fall 2015, McCann retained 51% of their full-time undergraduate students and 41% of their part-time.

And, McCann continues to support those students throughout their entire education. In 2012, 37% of full-time, first-time students graduated within 150% of their “normal” time. This number does not include part-time students, students who had already earned a degree, or transfer students. Out of the graduates, 32% were male and 39% were female.

Continuing with the numbers game, another 30% of students would go on to graduate within twice as long as their “normal” time. McCann is dedicated to offering their services as long as a student is enrolled in their program. There’s may no time limit to a great education.v*
