Our combination welding (CW) diploma program offers flexible scheduling and hands-on skills training in this exciting field.

Our program is taught by professional instructors in simulated work environments to help you develop the hands-on experience as well as equipment and shop safety skills that employers seek. The CW course of study is designed to equip students with skills and knowledge in shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), and flux core arc welding (FCAW).

The CW graduate will be qualified for entry-level employment in building construction, shipbuilding, manufacturing, gas and oil field services, and as welding operators. Students must possess a high school diploma, GED or recognized equivalent.

As a student enrolled in our Diesel Mechanic Classes, you will learn to inspect, diagnose, service and repair diesel-powered medium and heavy-duty vehicles like semi-trucks and buses. All major systems are covered including engine performance, transmissions, steering and suspension, brakes and tires, electrical and air conditioning..

What do diesel truck technicians do?

Diesel truck technicians carry out the repair and maintenance of diesel engines. Compared to automotive engines, diesel engines power heavy duty machinery such as trucks, busses, bulldozers, and cranes.

Diesel truck technicians work on a variety of repairs including rotating tires, changing oil, checking fluid levels, and replacing malfunctioning parts. They also inspect different parts of the vehicle including brakes, steering, engines, and transmissions.

As technology become more complex in vehicles, so do the repairs of vehicles. For example, technicians will use laptops to diagnose problems within electronic systems. They must read and interpret tests and software in order to determine malfunctions and errors with technology. In addition to this technology, technicians use both power tools and manual tools. Manual tools include wrenches, pliers, and sockets. Power tools include grinding machines and welding equipment.

As a student in our program, you will learn the skills and techniques necessary to become a diesel truck technician from industry-experienced professionals in a hands-on environment.

 Our Dental Assisting (DA) diploma program is designed to prepare students for successful careers in less than a year. The career-oriented program combines dental office administration, laboratory procedures, and chairside dental care.

Students must possess a high school diploma, GED or recognized equivalent, or demonstrate the ability to benefit from training. The DA graduate will be qualified for entry-level employment as a receptionist, insurance clerk or chairside assistance in dental offices or clinics.

As of September 1, 2006, a student must complete a mandatory brief course approved by Texas State Board of Dental Examiners in order to become a registered dental assistant. An approved provider list can be found of the TSBDE website – http://www.tsbde.state.tx.us. STVT will pay for this required course and a student’s first attempt of successful completion of this course for all DA students that have completed all other academic requirements towards the completion of the program.
