Clinical mental health counselors work in a variety of settings including private practices for individual, couples, groups, and family therapy, agencies that target a variety of mental health issues and populations, residential mental health, substance abuse facilities, outpatient substance abuse centers, hospitals, and state and local government.

The program is designed to enable program graduates to achieve all initial eligibility criteria to become a Licensed Mental Health Clinician in their state and certified as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). The length of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is eight quarters, full time and coursework is designed in accord with the licensing requirements of the states in which the program is offered. As a result, the program may not meet the licensing requirements of all states. The student should contact the licensing board in the state in which they anticipate seeking licensure to determine the appropriate program.
