Accreditation

Several organizations accredit the University of Tampa. For starters, UT is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. This is a regional accrediting body that award schools for continually seeking to enhance their curriculum. Both undergraduate and graduate courses at UT are accredited by this agency.

Applying to Bachelors Programs at the University of Tampa

In the fall of 2015, 18,721 students applied to undergraduate programs at University of Tampa. Of those students, 51% were admitted. Of admitted students 19% of them then went on to enroll.

UT does not require a minimum SAT score. Instead, UT evaluates students' entire experience. They may look at SAT scores alongside your other accomplishments. This could include extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and more.

There are two ways to apply to University of Tampa. Students are able to apply via UTampa’s website or with their paper application. Or, students could apply via the Common Application or Universal College Application.

Admissions are considered on a rolling basis for fall, summer, and spring. A $40 nonrefundable application fee is required along with your admission.

Graduate Applications at UT

Application requirements for graduate studies at the University of Tampa vary by program. Check out specific program pages for more details.

UT may require students to submit professional references along with their application. This could be completed by filling out the reference form provided on their admissions website.

Students could apply for graduate studies on UT.edu. Both paper and digital applications are available.

University of Tampa Enrollment

In fall of 2015, 7,059 undergraduate students were enrolled in University of Tampa. 96% of those students were full-time students. 58% of undergraduates were female while 42% were male.

That same year, 880 graduate students were also enrolled. The graduate class was almost evenly split between full-time and part-time students. 56% of graduate students pursued their education part-time. The remaining 44% were full-time students.ⁱ

Financial Aid at University of Tampa

In the 2014-2015 school year, 93% of full-time, beginning undergraduate students received financial aid. That’s 1,629 students who had help pursuing their educational goals! 91% of those students received assistance from a grant or scholarship. For example, students received scholarship aid from some of the following.

• Institutional Scholarships

Another 69% of students received financial aid from student loans.ⁱⁱ

Graduate students may be able to apply for graduate assistantship positions. Roles require students to work for an academic or administrative office on campus. These positions may request that students maintain a 3.25 GPA and continue to pursue a full course load.

It’s important to note that Florida residents may be able to apply for additional financial aid through the University of Tampa. This aid requires students to be a Florida resident for at least 12 consecutive months. Speak with a financial aid counselor for more information and to see if you may qualify.

Online Summer Sessions at University of Tampa

Online summer courses at University of Tampa are offered for both undergraduate and graduate students. This could be a great way to continue your education throughout the year!

Summer sessions partially take place on Blackboard, a system that collects notes, course work, and faculty lectures. This system also provides messaging and forums for student use. This could help you get in touch with your professor or peers when you have a question regarding the material.

Summer terms are typically split into 5 month long sessions. The varied session start times could make it easy to plan around any summer plans you may have.

The Faculty at the University of Tampa

The University of Tampa employs 295 full-time and 333 part-time faculty members. Of those, 100% of the faculty does not take part in research activities. This means that faculty members devote 100% of their time to teaching students.ⁱⁱⁱ

And, UT has a 17 to 1 student to teacher ratio. This could mean more individualized attention for students during classes.  

No graduate assistants teach classes at UT. Only faculty teach courses.

The Minaret – UT's Online Newspaper

Students interested in writing might like to take part in the University of Tampa’s online student newspaper, The Minaret. The Minaret won the 2013 Associated Collegiate Press Newspaper Online Pacemaker, which is the ACP’s highest honor for online student publications.

The publication is used to inform students, faculty, alumni, and the Tampa community about campus events. It could also be a great opportunity for journalism and communication students to practice writing, editing, and publishing content.

Stories include theatre performances, campus news, sports, and opinion pieces.

Graduating from the University of Tampa

Many students choose to complete their entire postsecondary education at University of Tampa. In fact, 75% of first-time students pursuing a bachelors degree in fall 2014 returned to their studies in 2015. During that same time, 100% of part-time students chose to continue their education at UT.

And, many of those students go on to graduate from University of Tampa. In 2009, 55% of full-time, first-time students graduated within 150% of their “normal” time. This means that students graduated between 4 to 6 years after starting their studies at UTampa. Of those graduates, 55% were male and 56% were female.
